Fr. Wayne's Words

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This Sunday we gather with Christians of every stripe and men and women of good will within our society and mourn the deaths of over 30,000,000 children, destroyed by abortions since the Roe vs Wade decision of our Supreme Court. I have to admit that it is hard to wrap my head around that number; so, I tried to understand it another way. It is equivalent to the population of Ludington times 3,590; that is nearly 3,600 Ludington’s. OR it would be equivalent to the entire State of Michigan times 3, every man woman and child living in our state times three. And the deaths continue to mount up! My brothers and sisters, we cannot hope to stem this slaughter only by changing politicians, Supreme Court justices, or even laws, in order to stop this we need to change the hearts and minds of those around us to a greater respect for the sanctity of human life. Then, even if the laws do not change, the war waged against human life might end. Let us keep in prayer Rene and Danica Carrier, Dee Bennete and Beckie Overturf as they represent us in the March For Life in Washington. DC. Elsewhere in the bulletin you will find information for a short demonstration here in Ludington this afternoon.

Kathyrine Nixon, Roger and Karen Manley, and Susan Shoup will be leaving this week to visit our “twining community” in Haiti. Please keep them in your prayers as they go to give a face to our caring for these people and bring their faces back to us so we can be more effective in the days ahead in helping them. The people of Haiti are known as the poorest among the peoples of our hemisphere!

On a personal note, I have become aware that I have gotten to recognize the faces of those who sit in the center section of our church fairly well. This has happened because as a creature of habit, I have distributed Communion there and meet the people who leave from the center doors. Beginning next week, I will be switching around and distributing Communion from different places and meeting people at the side doors as well. I do this to try to get to know you, my people, even better.

May God be Great in you!
